About this site

I started this site as a paleontology enthusiast. I'm particularly interested in facts concerning the evolutionary path from the first members of genus Homo to Homo sapiens (2,4 million years ago until present).

While looking for those facts, I stumbled on material created by people who are convinced that the Universe, Earth and all life on our planet were created by direct acts of God during a very short period, sometime between 5,700 and 10,000 years ago (see Young Earth creationism).

My first impulse was to ignore the statements made by these people, because their reasoning is utterly unscientific, as demonstrated by the following passage taken from https://answersingenesis.org/age-of-the-earth/how-old-does-earth-look:
Of course, the reason for insisting on a young earth and universe is because other biblical authors took Genesis as literal history and an eyewitness account provided and guaranteed accurate by the Creator Himself (2 Timothy 3:16a; 2 Peter 1:21). Jesus also took Genesis as literal history (Mark 10:6–9; Matthew 19:4–5; Luke 17:27). So, the outcome of letting Scripture interpret Scripture is a young earth and universe.

But then I read that, according to a December 2013 Pew Research Center analysis and a June 2014 Gallup poll, more than 3 or 4 in 10 Americans believe that God created humans in their present form 10.000 years ago. And among Republicans, more than 6 in 10 Americans adhere to this conviction. So although my original aim was to just create pages about human evolution, I couldn't help but add some information about the beliefs of people that, seemingly, have no problem in reasoning that the Bible is 100% true because it says so in the Bible.

Of course, it would be presumptuous to pretend that, one day, science will allow us to understand 'it all'. But precisely this awareness is much more awesome than a holy fairy tale telling us that Adam, Eve and vegetarian dynosaurs once lived peacefully together in the Garden of Eden.
